This is just to say that, while I cannot feel what you are feeling—I have my own response(s) to what it means to be of this country—I had breakfast this morning with three Iranians who are struggling with the same complex feelings you express here. It's just heart breaking.
At age 54, I moved back to India. Best decision I ever made. All around health, but living simply, modestly. One should be prepared for a different style of living altogether, accept the bad with the good. Where your soul feels at peace.
Nothing wrong with staying in U.S. Advice is same. But where is the soul more at peace? Place helps, though only a part of it.
Iran will withstand Trump! Will America? Change is the one permanent of life.
It’s different for Iran. The level of repression and the number of arrests of hyphenated Iranians makes it so that many of us can’t return. But I appreciate you sharing your experience.
